If you haven't noticed, August in the Greater Newport Area is all about getting outside and enjoying the awesome weather, spectacular natural surroundings and various outdoor events and activities.  There is no better place to be in August than right here!  This month, we are pleased to be promoting a bunch of active, outdoor events such as:

Bear Naked Adventures Full Moon Paddle on the Pend Oreille River.  Visit www.bearnakedadventures.com for more info.

Summer Theater Camp at Pend Oreille Playhouse.  For grades 4, 5 & 6.  Tuition: $35/student - Limit of 15 students.  Tuition waivers available.  Performance for family and friends: Friday, August 3 at 2pm.  Visit www.pendoreilleplayers.org for more info.

Free Sports Physical Clinic at Newport Hospital Family Health Center Clinic.  Registration begins at 8:30am.  All ages welcome.

Free Junior Golf Day at Stoneridge for ages 7 to 17.  Instruction will include putting, chipping, driving, sand work and etiquette of golf.  A hamburger barbeque for the participants will follow at the Events Center.  Register by July 30th through the pro shop at (208) 437-4653.  More information on their website here.

Kalispel Tribe of Indians Powwow and Salish Fair at the Kalispel Powwow Grounds near Usk, WA.  More information on poster below.

Pike Palooza 2012 on the Pend Oreille River, hosted by the Kalispel Tribe of Indians.  $10,000 in prizes up for grabs in this pike fishing derby - no entry fee.  See www.kalispeltribe.com for information and rules.

4th Annual Cusick Skate Contest at Cusick Skatepark.  Registration at 10am.  Poster with more information below.

Hydroplane Races on Pend Oreille River launching from Rotary Park in Oldtown, ID.


Pend Oreille County Annual Garden Tour and Dinner hosted by the WSU - PO County Extension Master Gardeners.  See poster below.

Pend Oreille River Valley Relay for Life at the Newport High School Track to raise money for cancer research and prevention.  Event starts at 6:30pm and goes through the night.  Lots of food, games, music & more!

Kalispel Horseback Poker / Trail Ride starting from Kalispel Powwow Grounds near Usk, WA.  10am registration, 11am start.  $40 registration fee includes BBQ & T-shirt. 

Challenge for Charity Golf Tournament at the Ranch Club sponsored by the Greater Newport Area and Priest River Chambers of Commerce.  Win up to $500 for the charity of your choice as you network with business owners from both communities.  Everyone welcome!  $40 per player, more information at www.newportareachamber.com.

As always, there are a bunch of other healthy events, classes and activities going on in the Newport area, such as exercise classes and swimming lessons at the Camas Center, exercise classes at Club Energy, dance and exercise classes at Anastasia's Spa & Salon and CREATE, gymnastics lessons at Score 10 Gymnastics, cooking classes at The Kitchen Shoppe, various support groups and more.
