Simplified Summer Food Program offering free meals to WA & ID children 1-18 years old (adults $2 with child) at Idaho Hill Elementary.  Also served at Priest River Elementary, The Mud Hole & Priest River Library.  Call 1-800-926-2588 for dates and times.

Stratton Elementary Free Summer Meals for Kids program.  Free breakfasts 7:30am - 8:30am and free lunches 11:30am - 12:30pm at Stratton Elementary cafeteria.  FREE to all kids 18 years of age and younger. 

Pike Palooza 2012 on the Pend Oreille River, hosted by the Kalispel Tribe of Indians.  $10,000 in prizes up for grabs in this pike fishing derby - no entry fee.  See www.kalispeltribe.com for information and rules.

Fourth of July celebrations held at Diamond Lake, Usk/Cusick, The Kalispel Reservation, Metaline, Laclede and Priest River. The Usk Community Club hosts a pancake breakfast. The Diamond Lake Boat Parade is cancelled this year due to high water levels. Fireworks shows are at the Kalispel Reservation, Metaline, Priest River and Diamond Lake. 

2012 Diamond Lake 4th of July Half Marathon & Mile Swim.  Swim (optional) begins at 6:15am at the Boat Ramp off South Shore Rd.  Run begins at 7am at parking lot of South Shore Store and Restaurant.  Contact Jeff Bell for info at jefferybell1954@gmail.com.

The Pend Oreille Valley Lavender Festival at the Newport City Park, on the corner of First and Calispel. The festival features juried artisan vendors, live music and entertainment, crafting demonstrations, food, wine tasting and children’s activities. The park is transformed into a Tuscan Garden with lavender plants throughout.

Strawberry Celebration Festival at Walters' Fruit Ranch in Green Bluff, WA.  More info at www.appleranch.com.

The Kalispel Amateur MX Youth Cup at Newport MX.  $4,000 pro purse!  Practice July 7th 8am-4pm.  More information on poster below or at www.newportmx.com.

Earn Your Wings at Amazing Wonders Aviation for children from 3 years old to 6th grade at Newport Southern Baptist Church.  Call 509 447-3370 for more information.

Dance Under the Stars in Newport sponsored by Michael's Cafe & OP.  Held in the Bank of America parking lot, with proceeds to benefit the Newport School District.  Vendors, dunk tank, DJ and live music and more.

North County Tri-Town Float Down on the Pend Oreille River, launching from the Ruby Creek Crossing on Hwy 20 and ending in Metaline, WA.

Camas 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament at the Camas Center Gym.  $5 per team, winning team to receive $50 cash prize.  Two divisions:  14-17 years of age and 18 years +.  All proceeds to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  Email MatthewBarulichsf@gmail.com for more information.  

Bull-A-Rama at the Newport Rodeo Grounds at Newport City Park, sponsored by the Newport Rodeo Association.  In between the bull ride sections, Inland Empire Barrel Racing Association members race against the clock, riding around three steel drums set up in the arena.

Football Camp for Newport Grades 2-8.  Led by Newport High School's new football coach Zac Farnham and assisted by high school players.  $25/kid which includes T-shirt.  Registration forms available at Owen's Grocery & Deli and Country Lane, in Newport.

Kids Cook Breakfast Class at the Kitchen Shoppe.  Kids will learn to prepare several healthy and tasty breakfast items from Becky (from Bushels).  Cost $10/kid.

People of the Pend Oreille Charity Golf Tournament at Deer Park, organized by the Kalispel Tribe of Indians.

Priest River Timber Days at Priest River City Park.  Asphalt Angels’ Hot Neon Nights car cruise on Friday night.  Early Saturday morning the Spartans Adult Booster Club begins a Huckleberry Pancake Breakfast, followed by the Rotary Club's Run for the Berries fun run, Arts and craft booths open at 10 am and the parade at 11 am.  Logging events and competitions run from 1-4pm, along with the Asphalt Angels' car show at the Priest River Junior High. Family dance at Mitchell’s Harvest Foods parking lot beginning at 7 pm on Saturday.  Lawnmower races downtown on Sunday.

Down River Days in Ione.  Parade Saturday and Lions Club train rides from Ione to Metaline Falls and back. The annual snowmobile water cross at the Ione park Sunday afternoon, where participants race across the Pend Oreille River on their snowmobiles.  Vendors will be set up in the park and a street dance will be held Saturday night with live music.

Pend Oreille Equestrians 2nd Annual 4H/Open Junior Horse Show at the Pend Oreille County Fairgrounds.  For more information, contact poequestrians@gmail.com or call 509-445-0785

A Concert in the Park presented by Pend Oreille Valley Relay for Life.  Featuring Sammy Eubanks & Friends and Priest River's Skivees.  Concert free but donations appreciated.  Newport City Park.

As always, there are a bunch of other healthy events, classes and activities going on in the Newport area, such as exercise classes and swimming lessons at the Camas Center, exercise classes at Club Energy, dance and exercise classes at Anastasia's Spa & Salon and CREATE, gymnastics lessons at Score 10 Gymnastics, cooking classes at The Kitchen Shoppe, various support groups and more.
